The more you look the more you find.
Ze zeggen weleens: ‘the more you look, the more you find’.

Somewhere deep down, I feel like I belong here. And yet, after moving from place to place so many times this year, I’m still not there. Still not. Sometimes it feels further away than ever, even while I’m here. As I find myself experiencing everything I once dreamed of, sometimes it also feels a little like an illusion.A real estate agent who doesn’t respond, feeling a spark only to watch it disappear again like a shooting star, experiencing cultural differences, still feeling alone in a new country, finding my way with work and a place to live. I choose all of it. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy.
They say, ‘the more you look, the more you find.’ And that’s definitely true. This past month, I somehow found myself at a vineyard, spontaneously helping with the harvest, joining an Italian family dinner, on a boat with my best friend, lost and in tears, feeling the trust and happiness that come from simply being, recognizing parts of myself I know from when I’m in the Netherlands — parts that perhaps simply truly belong to me — in a wine cellar filled with bottles from 1970, having dinners for two overlooking the sea, immersing myself in the water, watching the moon pass in front of the sun and somehow managing to find a pair of glasses right there on the spot, receiving warm smiles alongside lingering looks I liked a little less.
What it comes down to for me right now is this: when you truly step away from the version you’ve always known, when you make a choice, you also get tested. Challenged.
Do you really want this? Will you keep going? Do you dare to share? Again, and again and again and again, taking that first step. Right now, I’m a little tired of it. Empty. Drained. And that’s okay too. Following your dreams isn’t always easy. But let’s put it this way: this is part of it too.
Perhaps the road is just like the road to Rome: all roads lead there eventually. So I’ll keep walking.
